Every chat message, image, or video you create has a small cost in Sparks, shown in the App before you generate. Sparks are the App's single unit of value: whether a creation is paid by your Plan's included allowance or out of your Spark balance, it's measured the same way.
| Creation type | Cost |
|---|---|
| Chat message (standard model) | ✦ 1 Spark |
| Chat message (premium model) | ✦ 3 Sparks |
| Image | ✦ 5 Sparks |
| Video | ✦ 150 Sparks |
Prices are always shown live in the App at the moment you generate, and that displayed price is what's charged — this page is kept in sync, but the in-app price is authoritative.
There are exactly three situations where Sparks are spent. Nothing else spends them.
Sparks are simply your pay-as-you-go option. Buy a pack, create whatever you like, top up when you run low. No subscription is ever required to use the App.
Each AI model belongs to a Plan level. Free covers the everyday fast models; Basic adds a wider range; Premium unlocks the most powerful ones. If you'd like to use a model above your current level, you don't have to upgrade — you can pay for that single use with Sparks instead, at the price shown on the model. This works at any level, including with no Plan at all.
Your Plan includes an amount of usage that refreshes every 5 hours. If you use it all before the next refresh, the App tells you how long is left and stops there by default. Your Sparks are not touched.
If you'd rather keep going than wait, turn on “Use Sparks when my plan limit is reached” in Settings. With it on, creations past your allowance are paid from your Spark balance automatically. With it off — which is how every account starts — you'll never be charged Sparks for something your Plan was supposed to cover. The choice is yours, and you can change it at any time.
AI video is billed to us by the second and costs far more to produce than text or images — a single video can cost more than a month of a subscription. Rather than raise every Plan's price to cover it, or promise an amount of video that quietly runs out, we keep it simple and honest:
This means a Premium subscriber and a user with no subscription pay exactly the same for a video. Your subscription buys you better models and far more everyday usage; video is priced on its own, transparently.
Sparks are sold in fixed packs through Apple's In-App Purchase system, at a flat rate of roughly $0.01 per Spark regardless of pack size:
| Pack | Price |
|---|---|
| 100 Sparks | $0.99 |
| 500 Sparks | $4.99 |
| 1,000 Sparks | $9.99 |
Sparks never expire, have no cash value, and aren't transferable between accounts or devices. See our EULA, Section 4 for the full legal terms.
Sparks are priced for flexibility, not volume — there's no bulk discount. A Plan's included allowance refreshes every 5 hours and is worth far more in Sparks-equivalent value than the subscription costs: for anyone creating regularly (more than a handful of messages or images), subscribing works out many times cheaper per creation than paying with Sparks alone. Sparks are there for occasional use, for reaching a model above your level, and for overflow — a Plan is there for everyday use.
Do Sparks expire? No. They stay on your account until you spend them, whether that's tomorrow or next year.
If I subscribe, do I lose my Sparks? No. They sit untouched and stay available for video, for models above your level, or for going past your allowance if you've turned that on.
Can I get charged Sparks by surprise? Only in the two cases you choose: picking a model above your Plan level (the price is shown on the model before you use it), or turning on the “Use Sparks when my plan limit is reached” switch yourself. It is off unless you turn it on.
What if a creation fails? You're refunded automatically. If the AI can't produce a result, the Sparks — or the Plan allowance — go straight back.
Where do I see my balance? In Settings, and in the toolbar whenever your balance drops below the low-balance level you set (100 by default).
